Come up with your own crazy, unique idea and let us help you!

October is Brain Tumour Awareness Month
You can make a difference... How can you help?
Brain Tumour Awareness Month is an opportunity for the brain tumour community to rally together to create awareness, share information and garner support about this devastating disease. Across Canada, member organizations of the Canadian Alliance of Brain Tumour Organizations (CABTO) will be talking about brain tumours and hosting events to raise awareness. Click here to read the 2009 Media Release about Brain Tumour Awareness Month (will open a pdf file).
Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada has a number of things that you can do during Brain Tumour Awareness Month:
Place Banner Ads/Badges on Your Facebook Page - If you have a blog, company webpage, or social networking page, please "cut and paste" the code to one of our promotional ads on it and you'll help to create awareness. We have a selection of sizes for your convenience. Visit our banner section to get started!
Become a 'fan' of our Facebook page - Stay in touch with us every day with Facebook, click here to join us!
Utilize Social Media - Download CABTO's suggested list of messages that can be used to update you Facebook &Twitter accounts. These messages can also be used as a tagline at the bottom of your emails (will open a pdf file).
Be Aware and Share Signs and Symptoms - Another important way to raise awareness is to be aware and share the signs and symptoms of a brain tumour. Until a cure is discovered, early diagnosis and treatment provides the best chance for survival from a brain tumour. It is important to recognize the following most common signs and symptoms associated with brain tumors. Click here to download our 8.5 x 11" Signs and Symptoms poster (will open a pdf file).
Request an Awareness Kit - These informational packages include details on hosting a community event and other material to help you spread the word in your community. Contact us and we'll tailor one to your specific needs such as hosting a public display at a mall, school or health fair; creating a public bulletin board; spreading the word among your friends, family or colleagues with branded items.
Host an Awareness Display - Help educate Canadians about the extent of brain tumours and what support is available to those affected by holding an awareness display in a high traffic public place such as a local library, hospital or community centre. We will send you an Awareness Kit with everything to make your display effective and interactive. Additionally, we are always interested in learning about cancer or health fairs across Canada. Don’t forget to let us know when one is happening in your area.
Participate - There may be fundraising and awareness events happening in your community. Check the "What's Happening" section of our website for upcoming events.
Contribute to or Showcase the Hats Tribute - A travelling display of hats and stories of courage, the Hats Tribute allows people to learn about the journey with a brain tumour from patients and survivors themselves. Send us a hat in honour or memory of someone (or yourself!) and we will add it to the travelling display. During October, the hats will be at the Info Days in Halifax, London and Calgary. You are also welcome to send us a photo of your hat and we will include it in the virtual display available at our website.
To submit your hat, inquire about hosting the Hats Tribute in your community and for more information about Brain Tumour Awareness Month, contact Megan Winkler, Community Relations Coordinator at mwinkler@braintumour.ca or 1-800-265-5106 ext 230.
You can also hold a Crazy Hats Day, casual clothes day fundraiser, or a Grey for a Day event at work or school. Click here to learn more.
