Support Services for Children and Teens Affected by Brain Tumours

We all know how scary it can be when you first hear the words "brain tumour." Like adults, children have questions, fears and feelings of helplessness.  Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada has several resources to help children understand what is happening to them, their siblings, parents or loved ones.

'A Friend in Hope' storybook
Our children’s storybook, ‘A Friend in Hope’, is a wonderfully illustrated book that tells the story of Hope, a little girl with a brain tumour, through the eyes of her best friend Danny. Through Danny we see the challenges Hope faces, including medical treatments, losing her hair, hospital stays and missing school and friends.  Read more here.

BrainWAVE Pediatric Support Program
BrainWAVE
is a pediatric support program for families with a child or teen who have been diagnosed with a brain tumour. This fantastic program is comprised of four separate but related components: events, parent support, information dissemination and education. The events portion of the program is guided by a committee of dedicated volunteers in Southern Ontario and Lower Mainland BC. These fun events give kids a break from treatments and doctors’ appointments and offer parents a chance to share support and information. Would you like BrainWAVE to expand to your community? All we need is a group of individuals interested in forming a planning committee, and we can help from there.

Pediatric Resource Handbook
Our Pediatric Resource Handbook is a comprehensive, easy-to-read guide to brain tumours. The handbook provides information on tumour types, diagnostic procedures, medications, coping mechanisms and other information specific to children. The handbook is available in English and French.
