Donor Frequently Asked Questions

Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is funded solely through contributions from individuals and corporations. Without the help of people like you from communities across Canada, we could not continue to provide information, research and support to Canadians affected by a brain tumour.

How do dollars from the Community help?
Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is funded solely through contributions from individuals, corporations, organizations, employee groups and special events.

Because of their generosity, we are able to fund cutting edge research to help find a cure for brain tumours. We can offer monthly Support Groups in many communities across Canada, distribute our unique Patient Resource Handbook free to individuals and families, offer Information Day educational conferences from coast to coast and fully fund the Brain Tumour Tissue Bank, providing research tools to scientists across the world.

Do you subscribe to a donor bill of rights?
Yes, we have endorsed ‘A Donor Bill of Rights’ developed by the Association of Fundraising Professionals. At Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada, we believe that donors and prospective donors should have full confidence in the not-for-profit causes they are asked to support. Read the Donor Bill of Rights here.

Do you engage in selling or trading of donor lists?
We do not disclose your personal information to other organizations. In order to keep expenses low so that your gifts can go directly to support research projects and patient and family services, we sometimes share our mailing lists with likeminded charitable organizations, but only if you consent to such use, and only if the organization has appropriate privacy protection in place.

Members of Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada who have access to and are associated with the processing of personal data are obliged to respect the confidentiality of this information.

What if I do not want to receive mail or phone calls?
Tell us. We want to keep you informed on how your money is being used to bring hope to brain tumour patients, but we do not want to send unwelcome material. If you do not wish to receive printed materials from us, please call us at 519-642-7755 or, if you would prefer to receive information via email, please email SRelecom@braintumour.ca.

Where should I send my donation?

Cheques can be mailed to:

Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada
620 Colborne St., Suite 301
London, ON N6B 3R9

Or you can contribute online at CanadaHelps.org

Can I direct my gift to specific programs?
If you do not specify where you would like your donation to go, it will be used where the need is greatest. You can also direct your gift to Research, Information or Support. If you designate your gift for a specific purpose, your dollars will be used for that purpose only.

What if I want to make a gift In-memory or In-honour of someone?
This is a way to remember or honor a loved one, a friend or a colleague. You can make a memorial or a tribute gift on-line or contact our office for to make arrangements for very special Tribute gifts such as a gift for a wedding in lieu of table favors. Donate online at CanadaHelps.org

Will I receive a receipt for my donation?
We send receipts for tax purposes for any gift over $15.00. However, if your gift is less than $15.00 and you would like a receipt, please just let us know and we will be happy to send you one.

Where can I get more information about tax-deductible contributions?
Please consult the Canada Revenue Agency (formerly the CCRA) for more information. Detailed information can be found at http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca and search for Charitable Donations and Gifts.
