How You Can Help:

VOLUNTEER PROFILE: Lori Wilson
Calgary Survivor Focuses on Advocating Patient Health

Some experiences change people’s lives dramatically into unexpected directions. For Lori Wilson and her husband, Stephen, of Calgary, AB, their life-altering moment came when Lori was diagnosed with two brain tumours in June 2001. Since that time, they have learned more about the disease, and have become determined patient advocates – volunteering their time to support other patients, and help raise overall brain tumour awareness. LEGACY OF HOPE: Bill Nash

William Donald (Bill) Nash greatly valued the importance of his family and heritage. Bill grew up on the family dairy farm in Ingersoll, ON that had been worked before him by his mother and father. In 1992 Bill’s life was turned upside down by the diagnosis of his brain tumour. Over the next 16 years until his death in 2007, Bill did not let his brain tumour prevent him from tending to his daily chores for the animals and the farm that he loved. CLICK HERE to read Bill Nash's story and what he has done to create hope for brain tumour patients with his gift to research.

2009 CHARITY GOLF CLASSIC
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
8th Annual Charity Golf Classic

Planning is well under way for the 2009 Charity Golf Classic – a fundraising golf tournament held at the Oaks Golf Club by Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and the Epilepsy Support Centre. Last year, over 160 people helped raise $74,000 through a day of golf, dinner, and live and silent auctions.

This year registration can be done ONLINE! CLICK HERE to sign-up your foursome for another great day of golf and fun that brings hope to so many.

Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is a national not-for-profit whose mission is to reach every Canadian affected by a brain tumour with support, education and information, and to fund brain tumour research. Epilepsy Support Centre is a London-based organization that enhances the quality of life for people affected by seizure disorders through counseling and support services.

The two organizations have been co-hosting the Charity Golf Classic for eight years. The tournament’s fundraising efforts are greatly assisted by the generosity of its sponsors and volunteers! If you or your company is interested in becoming a sponsor for the event, we have packages available by contacting Sharon Whiteside at 519-642-7755, ext. 229 or by e-mail at swhiteside@braintumour.ca. We are looking forward to seeing you at this year's event!

COMMUNITY AWARENESS AND EVENTS

Help Raise Awareness in Your Community
Visit http://www.braintumour.ca and find out what local events are happening in your area under the "What's Happening" section (main page, left side).

Educating the public about the help and resources available to patients and their families as well as highlighting the prevalence of brain tumours across Canada is an on-going focus of Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. With the support and dedication of countless volunteers, every year Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada participates in a variety of special events and health fairs across the country. There are many ways you can help increase the number of people reached, no matter where you live.

From hosting a special event in your workplace (perhaps a casual day or a ‘funny hat’ day) to setting up an information and education display in a local mall or library, there are numerous ways to raise awareness. In fact, Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada has staff that can assist you in holding the best awareness event possible including providing banners, displays and web support.
