H1N1 Vaccine Update: Those undergoing active chemotherapy fall under the category of people whose immune systems have been compromised and therefore, the vaccine is recommended. However, patients and their families should discuss this with their health care team as there may be case-specific circumstances. To date, there have been no documented adverse side effects for people undergoing active chemotherapy and receiving the H1N1 vaccine, other than a sore arm. Patients are encouraged to contact their local health unit and their health care team so that an informed decision about whether or not to get the vaccine can be made, as it is entirely a personal choice.
