One Million Opportunities to Bring Hope
Hope comes to brain tumour patients and their families through advancement in research, a supportive community, and empowering information. The success of Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada’s 2007 national Spring Sprint program brought in 1.1 million reasons for Canadians affected by a brain tumour to share in the deserved gift of hope.
Over 3,500 people in 19 cities walked more than 13,000 kilometres across Canada and raised an unprecedented $1.1 million for brain tumour research, support programs, and educational and informational services. Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is proud to be able to expand its reach to the estimated 55,000 people living with a brain tumour and the 10,000 more who will be diagnosed this year.
On behalf of all those affected by brain tumours, Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada would like to thank all of the local sponsors, the volunteers, and the tremendous participants who supported the Spring Sprint this year – all making a positive impact in the lives of so many.
2007 Spring Sprint
Richard & Karen Motyka, Calgary, AB: Richard was diagnosed with a Grade 3 Astrocytoma and has undergone surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. A larger supporter in 2006, the Motykas, their family and friends donated an incredible $138,000 this year helping Calgary to achieve the highest Spring Sprint total to date!

Team Deloitte, Toronto, ON: Consisting of over 450 individual on-line donors and approximately 75 event participants, the Toronto offices of Deloitte organized a fantastic campaign this year that raised over $31,000. Team Deloitte was a major contributing factor in Toronto’s best Spring Sprint ever.

Mark de Gruchy & Angels of Hope, Ottawa, ON: In only a few weeks of hard effort, Mark personally gathered together an event team of over 100 family and friends to honour the life and courage of his wife, Veronica. Together they raised over $27,000 and shattered Ottawa Spring Sprint’s previous record.

Gilles & Carol Cayouette, Montréal, QC: Shattering their original fundraising goal by raising $22,000, the Cayouettes and their colleagues helped Montreal reach their highest Spring Sprint total yet. Gilles was diagnosed in February ’05 with a glioblastoma multiforme, but surgery and more than 30 sessions of radiation and chemotherapy helped him attend and support this year’s event.

Karen & Grant Reynolds, Brampton, ON: An essential part of the David Bloom Memorial Spring Sprint organizing committee, the Reynolds were instrumental to the success in Brampton this year. They donated and raised over $16,000 and Karen served as the honorary spokesperson for her courage as a four-year brain tumour survivor.
