Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is a national, not-for-profit organization with the vision to find the cause and cure for brain tumours while improving the quality of life for those we serve. We are dedicated to reaching every person in Canada affected by a brain tumour through support, education, information, and research. In Canada, there are an estimated 55,000 people living with a brain tumour, and each year an additional 10,000 are diagnosed. Thousands of people find emotional support and comfort through Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada's programs and services, all the while gaining a better understanding and knowledge of their disease.
If your life has been changed by a brain tumour, we are here to help. A variety of support services are offered for survivors, families and caregivers across Canada including support groups and the pediatric support program BrainWAVE. Information for anyone affected by a brain tumour (both malignant and benign) is available free of charge. Resources include Adult and Pediatric Resource Handbooks, 'A Friend in Hope' Children's Storybooks, BrainStorm Newsletter and several E-News Updates. A comprehensive Health Care Professional program is also available. To request any of these resources or more information please contact us.
Our History
Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada was established in London, Ontario in 1982 after Steve Northey lost his eight-year-old daughter to a brain tumour. Along with Dr. Rolando Del Maestro, a neurosurgeon and Pamela Del Maestro, a neuroscience nurse, they decided to form an organization that would help improve the quality of life for those affected by a brain tumour. More than $2.4 million dollars has been donated to brain tumour research since the organization's inception. The mission of the organization is to reach every Canadian affected by a brain tumour with support, information, education and research.
Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada has developed into Canada’s leader in providing brain tumour information and support. This leadership has led to being a founding member and active participant in the North American Brain Tumour Coalition (NABTC) and the Canadian Association of Brain Tumour Organizations (CABTO).
Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is funded solely through generous contributions from individuals, corporations, organizations, employee groups and special events.
