We’re there for you whenever and however you need us.

It’s a tagline found on Allstream’s company website, and the organization truly embodied this philosophy when they contributed to the Allstream Dream Team’s Spring Sprint fundraising this past June. “Our company is really supportive of its staff and their passions or causes, and this was just another way they stepped up for us,” explains Allstream Dream Team team captain Laura Sullivan.

allstream makes a donation to brain tumour foundation of canadaLaura helmed the 70+ person Spring Sprint team for the Ottawa event, in tribute to two Allstream staffers currently battling brain tumours. With the corporate gift from the company, the team went on to raise over $11,000 for brain tumour research and patient programs.

Laura had previously participated in Spring Sprint, on a different team, and felt that the experience would show support to her coworkers Natalie and Gordo, and remind them that they were not alone in this fight. Gordo’s spirit and sense of humour, along with what Laura calls his purely devilish personality, motivated her to pull a group together to fundraise for the brain tumour community. When Natalie was diagnosed just after Gordo (and following her previous fight with a different cancer), it further fuelled Laura’s commitment to the cause. “Natalie and Gordo are amazing people,” Laura says. “To see their strength in the face of such an overwhelming challenge can’t help but push you to want to do more, to see a change and help find the cure.”

Knowing about Allstream’s corporate social responsibility programs, Laura reached out to Calli McEachen, who heads up the company’s community support from her office in Toronto, ON. “When I heard from Laura and learned about the efforts she and her coworkers put in to building this team, it was easy to see the fit for Allstream’s matching gift and corporate giving programs,” Calli explains. Allstream’s Match My Dollar meets staff members’ fundraising at 25 cents for every dollar, to a maximum of $500, while Community Action Days gives to an initiative that involves many staff members who are committed to a specific cause or project. In total, through the two programs, Allstream contributed $1,000 to the Spring Sprint team.

Not only did Allstream provide fundraising support for the Dream Team, but many of the senior leadership came out to the Ottawa Spring Sprint, including the vice president of regulatory affairs. “We have such great management here,” adds Laura. “It was awesome to see them come out to the event and show their support for Gordo and Natalie.”

Corporate Giving in many forms plays a large role in supporting Canada’s brain tumour community, and helps fund critical research into the cause of and cure for brain tumours.
