2014 Research Grant Awardees

Five Canadian researchers have been awarded funds  to further investigate the causes, diagnosis and treatment of brain tumours. Congratulations to each of the researchers. Thank you for all of the work that you do to bring hope to everyone on the journey with a brain tumour.

Dr. John Kelly brain tumour foundation of canada research grant recipient
Dr. John Kelly, Neurosurgeon and assistant professor, Clinical Neurosciences at the University of Calgary receives an award for the project:

"Combinatorial treatment of glioblastoma initiating cells with microglial cytokines and STAT3 inhibition".

Dr. Ian Lorimer Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada research grant recipient
Dr. Ian Lorimer, Senior Scientist/Associate Professor at the Centre for Cancer Therapeutics at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute receives an award for the project:

"Targeting Glioblastoma tumour initiating cells via inhibition of fatty acid synthase"

Dr. Pejman Jabehdar Maralani Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada research grant awardeeDr. Pejman Jabehdar Maralani Lecturer, Staff Neuroradiologist, Medical Imaging at the University of Toronto, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre receives an award for the project:

"Quantitative blood oxygenation level dependent (qBOLD) MR imaging of glioblastoma multiforme for assessment of tumour hypoxia"

Dr. Sheila Singh, Pediatric Neurosurgeon, Canada Research Chair in Human Cancer Stem Cell Biology, Associate Professor of Surgery, McMaster University receives an award for the project:

"Therapeutic targeting of Sox2+ treatment-refractory stem cells in sonic hedgehog-dependent pediatric medulloblastoma."

Dr. Michael Taylor Professor, Department: Neurosurgery, Hospital for Sick Children Toronto, ON receives an award for the project:
