On September 17, 2022, the 3rd Annual DUNN with Cancer run will take place at Springbank Park in London, ON, in memory of Allison, and for every person who has been or will be impacted by glioblastoma.
The DUNN with Cancer Research Fund was established in 2020 in memory of Allison Dunn, a 33 year old mother of three, who was diagnosed with glioblastoma on February 18, 2020. Allison, who spent her life focused on helping the less fortunate in the Kitchener-Waterloo region, loved being with her three young children, volunteering in the community and spending time (with wine) with close family and friends.
Allison’s diagnosis was unexpected – the week before she was hiking with her children, to later being told she had an inoperable tumour with an average life expectancy of 18 months. When chemotherapy and radiation treatment had minimal impacts, Allison passed away peacefully on June 17, 2020, 4 months less a day after the tumour was discovered.
Determined to fund research and foster innovation, Allison’s family and friends established the DUNN with Cancer run, which took place for the first time on September 19, 2020. Funds raised went to the DUNN with Cancer Research Fund, to expand the field of researchers and help fund new innovative concepts. In its first two years this event has raised well over $400,000. The funds raised have sponsoring four grants in its first year, with an additional Fellowship grant and two Research grants set to be announced over the next several months! While this is a fantastic start, we know more needs to be done to support glioblastoma research.
The Movement of Hope that we started two years ago continues in 2022. We will run for each person who has been or will be impacted by glioblastoma. We run to raise money to find more innovative concepts that will change the future for others affected by this devastating disease. And – together – we run for Allison.
Join us on September 17, 2022, for the 3rd Annual DUNN with Cancer run at Springbank Park in London, ON, or give generously today. Together we can change the future for other families.
