There are so many ways you can help make a difference in the lives of patients and families today.
Our 2025 Calgary Brain Tumour Walk ambassador.
How have brain tumours impacted you?
My father was diagnosed with glioblastoma. Before his diagnosis, brain tumours weren’t something I had ever thought much about. They were distant, rare, something that happened to other people. But his diagnosis changed everything and very suddenly, brain tumours became the only thing on my radar.
Watching someone you love face glioblastoma is devastating. The speed, the uncertainty and the emotional toll were overwhelming. Our world shifted overnight. His courage in the face of something so cruel left a lasting impact on me. Our family’s experience has reshaped my perspective and now I’d like to spend time helping others who may find themselves in a similar situation.
How did you become involved with Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada?
I had been watching BTFC’s website for any volunteering opportunities in the Calgary area and reached out when one opened up. From there, my involvement grew and this year I’m helping to organize Calgary’s Brain Tumour Walk for the first time.
How and when have you participated in past Brain Tumour Walks? How will you be participating this year?
In 2024, I participated in a Community-led Walk in Calgary, walking in my father’s memory. This year, I’ll be helping organize the Calgary Brain Tumour Walk.
Why did you decide to join the Brain Tumour Walk organizing committee?
I really was just looking for an opportunity to support other individuals and families going through similar challenges.
Why would you encourage others to participate in the Brain Tumour Walk?
Beyond raising important funds and awareness, the Brain Tumour Walk is a chance to connect with others who truly understand what you’re going through. It’s a supportive and uplifting environment where people can come together, share their stories, and rally around one another. There’s a real sense of community, and it reminds you that you’re not alone.
