Impact of receiving this award:
Receiving the Brain Tumour Foundation Youth Education Scholarship is incredibly meaningful to me as a brain tumor Survivor. In grade eleven, I struggled in my education due to an undiagnosed brain tumour that was caught by the start of my senior year. During my final year of high school, I fought through surgery and radiation while also fighting to graduate. Postsecondary education has always been my dream, and I refused to let my brain tumour diagnosis take that dream away. This scholarship supports not only me but my family, who gave up months of income to take care of me during my medical treatments earlier this year.
When the uncontrollable effects of treatment weighed down on me, school gave me back a sense of control. I fell in love with self-directed learning and the rigorous pursuit of graduation. The chance to learn and reach post-secondary kept me motivated daily and brought me hope on the hardest days. I am beyond grateful to receive this scholarship, which will ease the burden on my family and allow me to keep chasing my dreams.
