Creating Moments of Joy and Connection for BrainWAVE Families in London
Over the past few months, two special BrainWAVE events in London, Ont., offered something deeply meaningful to children living with a brain tumour and to the families who support them every day: time to breathe, moments of joy and the reassurance that they are not alone.
Living with a pediatric brain tumour can be isolating. Medical appointments, treatments and uncertainty often take centre stage, leaving little space for rest or connection. BrainWAVE events are designed to change that, even if just for a few hours, by creating safe, welcoming experiences where families can step away from the hospital environment, make memories together and connect with others who truly understand their journey.

In January, our BrainWAVE families attended Disney On Ice: Road Trip Adventures, where familiar music and beloved characters created an atmosphere of excitement and wonder. For many families, it was a rare opportunity to step away from medical routines and simply enjoy being together, share laughter and create positive memories.
Later that month, families came together again for the Harlem Globetrotters’ 100 Year Tour. The high-energy performance, filled with incredible athleticism and humour, brought smiles, cheers and a powerful sense of shared joy to the crowd. Moments like these remind families that fun and connection can still exist alongside uncertainty.
More than the events themselves, what made these experiences so impactful was the sense of community they fostered. Children met other kids facing similar challenges, and caregivers connected with families who understand the emotional realities of a pediatric brain tumour diagnosis. BrainWAVE events provide not just entertainment but also meaningful respite and reassurance that no family faces this journey alone.
We are grateful to everyone who helps make these moments possible and for the opportunity to continue creating spaces of connection, comfort and hope for families affected by a brain tumour.
