Turning the New Year into meaningful action

  January 6, 2026

As we begin a new year, we’re excited to welcome some incredible new volunteers to Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. Each of them brings unique experiences, skills and a shared commitment to supporting the brain tumour community. Their passion and generosity strengthen our programs and remind us how powerful it is when people come together with purpose. We’re grateful to have them on our team and look forward to the meaningful impact they will make.

We are pleased to welcome Ann Blahun, who will support our Programs and Services team as a member of the Edmonton BrainWAVE Committee.

Ann has a true passion for volunteering and is thrilled at the chance to dive back into this rewarding way of making a difference! In her career, she’s risen to a senior role, but it’s meant stepping away from the hands-on work she loves. Now, she’s eager to embrace new opportunities that spark connection, purpose and the joy of giving back to her community.

A deeply committed Registered Social Worker with over 8 years of experience walking alongside individuals and families during their most challenging moments. Her journey has included serving through organizations such as Children’s Services, Stollery Children’s Hospital, CMHA-ER and 988 Canada. Today, as Manager of Support Services at CMHA-ER, she leads with empathy and purpose, overseeing the Edmonton Distress Line, Family Support Services and Suicide Grief Support Services, and creating spaces of comfort and healing for those who need it most.

Join a Brain Tumour Walk Volunteer Organizing Committee

The new year is also a time to reflect on how we want to give back. For some, that intention may take the form of volunteering: sharing time, compassion and lived experience to support others. Becoming a volunteer with Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada is a meaningful way to make a difference, build connections and be part of a community rooted in hope. We are currently looking for volunteer organizing committee members for various Brain Tumour Walk locations. Please contact us to learn more!

To help you explore this opportunity, we’ll be hosting virtual volunteer information sessions these coming months via Zoom to share more about Walk committee roles available in communities across Canada. These sessions will provide a brief overview of the Brain Tumour Walk Program and why it matters, outline volunteer roles and responsibilities, offer the chance to meet passionate volunteers and staff, and create space to ask questions and see whether this opportunity is the right fit for you. If supporting others is part of your New Year’s resolution, we’d love to welcome you! Learn more on this page.

Please contact Mary O’Neill at moneill@braintumour.ca if you have any questions.
