Health Care Professional

How did you start volunteering with Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada?

“From the first meetings with your Foundation, I understood how you could make a difference to help support patients with brain tumours and their families. That is why I take the time to present your Foundation’s information and send the documentation to each new family we meet in pediatric neuro-oncology.”

What is your fondest memory of volunteering with us?

“I have precious memories of the very rewarding activities that Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada carried out as part of the Gocervo/BrainWave program (before the pandemic). This allowed me to rub shoulders with my patients, to see them smile and flourish in a universe other than the hospital environment.”

This year’s theme for volunteer week is Empathy in Action. What does empathy mean to you?

“Empathy in my opinion is to listen to your patient, regardless of age. It is getting to know them, listening to them, and answering their questions truthfully. Because it allows better collaboration with them during the care and throughout the follow-up.”

What’s the best piece of advice you have given, or someone has given?

“The best advice I have received is to remain authentic.”
