Mckenna’s Volunteer Profile

  April 16, 2019

At only 14 years old, Mckenna is one of Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada’s youngest volunteers. When asked about her role with us this is what she shared.

“I started volunteering because I am a brain tumour survivor and realized that by sharing my story, I could make a difference and contribute to one day finding a cure.

My favourite thing about volunteering is that for a national organization, Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada feels like a family. I love being part of that family. I will volunteer for anything that the Foundation needs but mostly, I share my story to raise awareness. I go to events and especially during Brain Tumour Awareness Month I visit almost every classroom in my school to let them know about brain tumours.

Also, a group of friends and I have a business called Glitter Glam. We do glitter tattoos for donations and 100% of the proceeds go to Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. We have raised over $5,000!

If you are thinking of volunteering, do it! You’d be surprised what a huge difference small acts of volunteering can make.”

This story was shared in April 2019 to celebrate National Volunteer Week.
