My name is Sylvie and I am from the Montreal, Quebec area.

My story began after taking a simple eye test. I was then referred to a neurosurgeon who said that my visual field was narrowed. Following this neurosurgery encounter, I was told that I had a pituitary tumour that stretched my optic nerve, resulting in my visual field narrowing.

It turns out that this condition was present for several years, but never diagnosed by my neglect of not having a simple eye test on an annual basis.

Following this surgery, unfortunately, my optic nerve was already too stretched. There was bleeding which led to a total loss of vision from that day on.

Up until then, I studied and worked in order to build a more fulfilling career. Now, everything changed.

I am fortunate to have relatives and a spouse who were able to assist me in this ordeal. Despite this luck that gives me the strength to stay positive in life, if I had to do it again, I would never neglect this simple annual eye test again.

My message to everyone who says that it is not important to have their eyesight checked regularly, do not wait until it is too late!
