Nadine’s Story
2021 Youth Education Award Recipient
Nadine Kroes – Guelph, ON
Pre-Health at Mohawk College
Diagnosed with a Medulloblastoma at age 11
Generously funded by R. Angus King Legacy Fund
I am honoured and humbled to be selected as a recipient for a Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada Youth Education Award funded by the R. Angus King Legacy Fund.
From a young age, my parents have prepared me to know that I would be responsible to fund my post-secondary education. Receiving this award has helped take some of the financial stress of attending college off me. The award will allow me to focus more on my studies and the people around me, rather than worrying about my educational finances.
It has always been my dream to become a nurse, ever since I was a little girl. My diagnosis and cancer treatment at age eleven altered the way that I thought I would grow up; physically, emotionally, and educationally. Even though things have become more challenging for me, I am not giving up and receiving this award will bring me closer to reaching my dream of becoming a nurse.
